One Ton Hooks - A critical review

Post by RobRegish »

Some of you are aware I ordered these not too long ago and have been evaluating them for the past weeks or so:

https://www.1-ton-hooks.com/index.html

One pair retails for $59.90

OVERVIEW: The hooks/padding and overall apparatus are VERY solidly built. I haven't had a ton on there but I did put them to the test on rack pulls, chins and rows.

ANALYSIS: Not ideal for the heaviest of pulls (singles, doubles, triples etc.) or static holds. They ARE ideal for partial range movements for use in Power Factor Training. Briefly, these are higher rep partial movements with extremely heavy weight.

EXAMPLES: On the strong range rack pull, all was well up until about 600lbs. The issue being, you can't really get a grip by wrapping your hand/fingers around the bar as you can on wrist straps. Try as i might, I just couldn't budge over 600 off the pins!. I switch to my trusty black wrist straps and worked up to 875 for two, 5 second holds. This after taking almost 2 weeks off due to shoulder injuries/burnout etc..

OVERALL: I had really, really high hopes for these as many of you know. Unfortunately, they didn't pan out. There really is something to gripping the bar tightly that is integral to generating maximum power.

I wish I could give them the thumbs up, really do. There may well be a place for these that I haven't considered yet. However, you guys have come to expect the truth from me (and well you should).

FINAL WORD: Unless you have tendonitis/arthritis of the hand-joints, stick with wrist straps/chalk:

ATHLETIC / LIFTING CHALK: Get a grip on your workouts. Keep your hands dry and your grip secure. Two blocks. $5.95

LIFTING STRAPS: Boost your Deadlift, Row and Chin-up power instantly. Heavy Duty Webbing for long-lasting durability and comfort. $6.95

Am I returning them? No, I'm not. I believe they're well made. My order was handled promptly, professionally and the one question I had was answered to my satisfaction. Guy was damn courteous too.

I value that.

Wow, so you have a pair Hank?

If so, I'd be interested in comparing notes.

Interesting. For now, sticking with my wraps on most exercises. Just like them and the cost/benefit ratio can't be beat..
